Thank you for visiting socialmoon.vegas!
My name is Melissa Fama-Flis and I am a social media graduate student online at the University of Florida and a marketing professional in Las Vegas, Nevada. This blog is serving as an assignment board for my MMC5006: Introduction to Multimedia Communications class but I intend to continue sharing my social media knowledge with you long after I complete this program.
I am fascinated by the way social media has changed the world in such a short amount of time. It’s my goal to learn and embrace everything there is to know about this digital sensation and then use what I’ve learned to help others manage their social business strategies.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Television Production at UNLV in 2002. I am a diehard UNLV Runnin’ Rebel Men’s Basketball fan and season ticket holder. I enjoy going to the games at the Thomas & Mack Center as well as following my alma mater on social media.
Currently, I am the marketing coordinator for a local homebuilder in Las Vegas. I have 12 years professional experience in marketing communications but my focus before now has fallen in the general advertising, real estate marketing and financial services marketing industries.
In 2007, I discovered a love for volunteerism. I currently serve as Treasurer of the Las Vegas Chapter of the American Marketing Association and plan to be more involved in our social media committee in 2015 – you may even see some of socialmoon.vegas’ blog posts on our AMA website this year. Prior to working with this upbeat organization, I was a proud founding member of the Young Philanthropist Society through the United Way of Southern Nevada for four years and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2012. I also served on the Board of Governors for the Southern Nevada Chapter of the Nevada Credit Union League from 2011-2014 to promote credit union advocacy.
I currently reside in Las Vegas, Nevada with my life partner, William, and my two beautiful sons, Dominik (16) and Carson (10). I was born and raised in Southern Nevada and I plan calling this amazing city home forever.
